The project

The municipality of Massa – Department of Technological Innovation – realised this project, funded by the Ministry of Internal Affairs through the Prefecture of Massa Carrara in order to induce citizens to participate in the life of the City. Through the use of simple and effective multimedia system citizens can interact with the municipal administration and other institutions involved in the project to report an emergency or problems concerning the viability and safety of the municipality.

Activities and realised solutions

The project complements and completes the system of video surveillance that protects the historical and environmental heritage and urban security, an intervention already achieved through the deployment of cameras in the nerve centres of the territory.

The service is free and offers several ways to use to get close to all types of people (youth, elderly, disabled, immigrants).The Infopoint totems have the following characteristics:

  • easily recognisable and accessible (to the disabled)
  • extreme simplicity
  • The possibility to provide additional features to complement the information content such as the DIRECT PHONE (calls at no additional cost), the Bluetooth module (allows users to receive a reminder of the information on the screen on their mobile phone), and the route planner module (to find out the path necessary to reach a place of interest).

 

To integrate the reporting system, 4 Totem infopoints were located in places with a high volume of people (outside the Town Hall, at the health centre, in Piazza Garibaldi, in Piazza Betti), which display multilingual information in a multimedia format on public utility such as public reporting emergency communications, services offered by the city, initiatives and events.

• Connecting to the Council’s website

• Totem call to a public utility number

• Using the form on the Totems located across the territory
